The scrubber is a filtering device to abate the concentration of VOC and dust found in gas streams. It is used when the substances to be removed react in water.

Abatement takes places through impact between the nebulised washing liquid and the pollutants in the air. The polluted air is suctioned into the lower part of the washing tower and is washed in counter-current at low speed over a broad contact surface.

Wet abatement systems can be composed of several washing stages, even with different types (e.g. Venturi scrubber, floating washing tower, static washing tower, horizontal scrubber) and with different washing solutions according to the pollutants to be removed and their concentrations.

VERTICAL SCRUBBERS

The vertical scrubber or washing tower is among the most common wet abatement systems for the removal of water soluble chemical compounds. The sizing parameters are based on flow rates, temperatures, pollutants and their concentrations. The system is fully customised and designed for the customer according to their needs and achieves excellent abatement efficiencies.

In particular, for fumes polluted by the presence of dust, a Venturi scrubber is used which uses the pressure in the Venturi duct to push the dust into the washing liquid. With this system it is possible to obtain excellent particulate abatement efficiencies and good efficiencies in relation to Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC).

To obtain high efficiencies for the abatement of VOC and chemical compounds, smoke cleaning is used which is carried out through one or more washing towers which can be in series or overlapping. Sizing is crucial, it involves the use of specific filling bodies (bulk filling or structured filling), of adequate volumes of the recirculating liquid and of any chemical reagents.
In case of lack of space it is possible to use the floating scrubber that allows for reduced tower diameters and a smaller footprint.

HORIZONTAL SCRUBBERS

If there is not enough space in height, use the horizontal scrubber configuration that can offer multi-stage washing, with identical operation to the vertical scrubber.
